![]() The notary community is a vast group of professionals serving under statutes and restrictions that vary from state to state. As more state-specific notary groups convene nationwide to identify areas of opportunity within the notarial office, support for these initiatives has never been more available than it is now. The Georgia Notary Network, Inc. (GaNN) started as an idea to create a space for other Georgians who were interested in becoming notaries public and business owners. As an attorney state, Georgia has limitations that often discourage those interested in joining the notary industry. Through the establishment of GaNN and the use of the latest technology, Georgia notaries had a place to connect, share ideas and ask questions related to becoming notary business owners. However, there was a deeper conversation and a greater call to action on behalf of the Georgia notary community. While GaNN is not a political group or legal organization, there were opportunities to become involved with Georgia’s legislative and economic agendas. How would GaNN move forward? By researching and connecting with similar organizations with the goal of impacting their state. Matt Miller, President of The California League of Independent Notaries (CLIN), was instrumental in assisting GaNN with creating a foundation. GaNN and Miller met virtually during the pandemic to discuss best practices for developing organizational goals. Miller provided feedback and guidance as GaNN navigated state issues and considered prioritized initiatives. While there was always great consideration for the differences between Georgia and California, the single focus of serving the Georgia notary community remained the top priority. The Georgia Notary Network, Inc. is now the only independent, Georgia nonprofit organization dedicated to the advocacy of notaries public, has actively contributed feedback in 2 legislative sessions (HB334-Remote Online Notarization), has been published in regional online publications and hosts monthly and annual events for notaries public. GaNN’s existence, current work and future goals are the results of the support that crossed state lines to continue to impact the notary community. GaNN’s mission is to create a “…community for notaries public commissioned in the State of Georgia to connect, learn, and expand business opportunities.” GaNN’s will follow in the footsteps of CLIN and pay it forward by supporting notaries nationwide with founding organizations to impact their state-specific notary community. Why don’t you promote birth control and population reduction for Africa instead of getting wound up about zebras?
